wylan’s never ventured this far into the barrel before.  he’s never had to; the few times he’s come close, he’s kept his head down, footsteps quick, there and then gone.  today, he walks with shaky purpose.  it’s going to be today.  he’s going to do it.

“i’m, uh, i’m looking for kaz?”  dirtyhands isn’t as hard to find as one might expect.  it was an old lady, of all people, who pointed wylan in the right direction. “i was told… i mean, i can’t say who told me, but i heard… i was hoping you could help me.”  

kaz brekker is a thief and a conman, but as far as wylan knows, not a senseless killer.  please, please, please.  

“stop gawking and sit down,” says kaz, and wylan almost trips over his own feet as he does just that.

• jesper cracking jokes about people dancing the minuet and wylan sighing and telling him nobody dances that anymore so kuwei asks what do people dance in ketterdam?  impromptu dancing is what i’m getting at here
• literally whenever one of the other dregs sees them and it’s like did we miss something here how do you even ASK that
